Since its debut in 1963, the Swagelok Tube Fitter’s Manual has been the industry standard publication. It’s the result of extensive field research and laboratory studies conducted by our research and development engineers, as well as by feedback from you, our customer.

As industry requirements have grown and changed over the years, so too has the content of this manual. We have expanded the scope of the manual to now include information on selecting tube fittings for severe service applications, metallurgy, innovations in product design, and advanced manufacturing processes. Yet, the information you have always counted on – troubleshooting, tubing specifications and pressure ratings – can still be found within.

More Than Tube Fittings

The Swagelok Tube Fitter’s Manual is intended to provide a quick reference to technically accurate design and installation information so the installer can avoid many of the potential problems encountered on installation of tubing systems.

While the manual is primarily geared towards Swagelok tube fittings, it also covers important aspects of tubing, valves, and threads as well as chapters detailing severe service, special purpose fittings, and pressure ratings. To take one example from the manual, when a Swagelok tube fitting is bored through, the shoulder of the tube fitting is removed and the ferrules will not meet the same resistance as when the tubing is properly bottomed. This can have important implications as the pressure rating of this assembled connection is effectively reduced.

No Trouble At All

Any complex system will have its share of challenges. The manual has an entire chapter dedicated to troubleshooting to ensure these challenges are kept to a minimum. If the tube fitting cannot be pulled up the proper amount of turns, for example, there could be half a dozen possible causes that are documented, each with a recommended corrective measure. The chapter covers installation techniques and practices to ensure your systems are robust and high performing.
