Swagelok Value-Added Solutions Help Customer Manage Big Win
Big orders and projects can be a blessing and a burden. Back in 2009, Imtech Analyser Systems won a contract for a substantial engineering and construction project in the oil and gas industry. The size and scope of the project required a robust and streamlined approach to supply chain management. “It was a complex project that involved the design, engineering and building of 18 analyser houses with 250 sampling systems in a period of just 12 months,” comments Johan La Grand, senior buyer at Imtech Analyser Systems.
Completing the project on time and delivering high quality assemblies at a good price meant finding new ways of reducing production time, lowering procurement costs and optimizing efficiency in their assembly line. Imtech asked their suppliers and vendors to help achieve this goal; Swagelok Nederland answered their call.
Upping the Value Added Ante
Collaborating with the customer and truly understanding their needs was critical to the success of the project. Stanley Azijnman, account manager for Swagelok Nederland explains how they went about finding a solution for Imtech – “Swagelok has been supplying fluid system components to Imtech Analyser Systems for some 25 years. To be able to add value to Imtech’s supply chain, it was essential that we supply Imtech with product and logistic solutions rather than just product components.” The result was a combination of Swagelok fluid system components, pre-assembled custom solutions, kitting and 24/7 access to Swagelok products through vendor managed inventory (VMI).
Reducing Production Time
One way for Imtech to streamline their supply chain was to utilize Swagelok’s kitting service. In collaboration with Imtech’s engineers, Azijnman proposed a custom designed kit that consisted of individually packaged components, packaged according to the assembly instructions per sampling system. Rather than ordering multiple component pieces in varying quantities, Swagelok was able to present a single part number for the kits which simplified the ordering process. Each kit contained a ball valve, change-over manifold regulators, hoses, pre-assembled stream selector valves, tube fittings, pre-assembled pressure regulators, automated valve assemblies, manifolds and other assembled solutions. According to Imtech, it was an ideal solution: “We didn’t have to buy stock in bulk, our installers didn’t have to compile their own individual inventories and the pre-packaged kits were delivered to the door on time.”
At the conclusion of the project, Swagelok Nederland presented a Value Impact Partnership report which provided proof, in numbers, that by listening and understanding the needs of the customer, Swagelok was able to help Imtech achieve its goal.
