Tube Fitting Installation and Tube Bending Training

Swagelok installation training attendee checks their work with a gap inspection gauge.

Full-Day, Hands-On Training.

Course Identification: TRAINING-ESS-STS-8HRS/I

1. Tube Fitting Installation Attendees will learn foundational tube fitting knowledge that ensures system integrity and minimizes leakage risks. The course covers proper tube selection, cutting, and deburring; assembly of Swagelok® tube fittings; and gauging a tube fitting assembly.

2. Tube Bending Properly bending tube helps to eliminate mechanical connections, which can be a source for leaks in traditional piping systems. In this course, Swagelok instructors cover the basics of tube bending.

Each attendee receives a Certificate of Completion for passing the course.

Course Contents (1 Day) The day is divided into two main, hands-on sessions.

The morning session
, based in a classroom environment, covers the theoretical and foundational tube fitting knowledge part of the course.

The following key subjects, amongst others, are covered:

  • Correct tube selection and handling (based on environmental and pressure considerations)
  • Good tube handling practices (including cutting, de-burring and compensating for other variables)
  • Correct and safe installation of tube fittings
  • Installation and re-tightening procedures (including pre-swaging and gaugeability)
  • Tube system installation (including correct supports, placement, and best practices)
  • Tube fitting mechanics
  • Tube fitting and incorrect practice identification
  • Thread type discussion and threaded fitting installation practices
  • Correct tube bending practices (including practical exercises)
  • Safety considerations

Training attendees take exam.

The afternoon session is devoted to a written and practical examination. The attendees are required to demonstrate their understanding and skill by fabricating a burst test loop using all the information and good practice developed from the theoretical sessions.

The test loop is prepared by the student and is tested in our hydrostatic burst test rig. The pressure is increased until the test loop bursts in a hoop stress failure on the tubing. This proves that good, safe, installation practices have been mastered which will lead to leak and trouble-free systems in the field.

Upon successful completion of both sessions of the course, the attendee receives a certificate, which identifies that the associate’s competency has been verified and demonstrated during the training course.

The associate returns to the workplace with both the knowledge and the tools to put what has been learned into practice.

We provide all necessary tools & consumables, lunch, coffee, refreshments, and snacks. Please advise us ahead of time if you have any specific dietary requirements.
